Talley Gallery presents ceramic works of Jeff Oestreich

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Talley Gallery at Bemidji State University will present the works of internationally-known ceramics artist Jeff Oestreich in a show entitled “Almost 60,” beginning Monday, Oct. 1.

Oestreich began his pottery training at Bemidji State University in 1965, later studying with Warren Mackenzie at the University of Minnesota. Upon his graduation from the University of Minnesota, he moved to England to apprentice under Bernard Leach at Leach Pottery in St. Ives, Cornwall.

Oestreich, who exhibits and teaches workshops across the nation and internationally, is a recent recipient of a McKnight Foundation grant as well as a Jerome Foundation grant allowing him to exhibit and teach in England, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand and Australia.

Now approaching the age of 60, Oestreich has become reflective of his life’s work. His show at Talley Gallery will include both new works of his own and ceramic pieces from his personal collection created by artists who have influenced him over the years.

Oestreich’s show will run through Oct. 26.

Located in the Education Arts building on the campus of Bemidji State University, the Talley Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery is barrier-free and is open at no charge to the public.
