BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University’s Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Darrin Oehlerking, will present an Earth Day concert for its season finale at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, in the Bemidji High School auditorium.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for all students. A portion of the concert proceeds will be donated to the Northwoods Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a community organization that adheres to environmentally friendly practices.
In keeping with the Earth Day theme of environmental awareness, the concert will feature pieces with titles related to the environment. Included in the program will be “Fall River Overture” by Robert Sheldon, “Mother Earth” by David Maslanka, “The Leaves Are Falling” by Warren Benson, and “Hands Across the Sea” by John Philip Sousa, to name but a few. Music education majors Doug Quance of Bertha, Minn., will conduct “For the Beauty of the Earth” and Beth Holzhueter of Bemidji, Minn., will conduct “Sea Songs.”
The concert programs and posters will be printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper, and the ensemble members will travel to the auditorium as efficiently as possible. Car-pooling or using Paul Bunyan Transit is encouraged.
