Talley Gallery to feature works of Angel Mihaylov

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Nov. 4, 2009) — Bulgarian artist Angel Mihaylov will present an exhibition entitled “Color and Contrast” in the Talley Gallery of the Education Arts Complex on the campus of Bemidji State University from Wednesday, Nov. 4 through Tuesday, Nov. 24.

Mihaylov was educated at the Nikolai Pavlovich National Arts Academy, the most prestigious art school in Bulgaria. A realist painter influenced by the works of Velazquez, Caravaggio and Vermeer, Mihaylov strives to push the viewer of his work “beyond the boundaries of the object and feel the pulse of life in it.” He has paintings on display in collections in Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Scotland, Monaco, France and his current home country of Cyprus.

Mihaylov will provide a lecture on his work and painting techniques twice on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in room 112 of Bemidji State’s Education-Arts Building. The opening reception for Mihaylov’s exhibit will also be on Nov. 5, at noon in the Talley Gallery.

Mihaylov’s visit to Bemidji and his Talley Gallery exhibit were made possible through grants from the Region 2 Arts Council Arts Project Grant; the Bemidji Area Arts Endowment, a component of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, the College of Arts and Sciences at Bemidji State University and the Bemidji State University Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee.

Located in room 212 of the Education Arts building on the campus of Bemidji State University, the Talley Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery is barrier-free and is open at no charge to the public.
