Jazz Band I to offer Feb. 12 concert

BEMIDJI, Minn. (February 3, 2011) — Bemidji State University’s Jazz Band I will hold a Saturday, Feb. 12, concert on campus featuring guest soloist Kevin Daley.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall in Bemidji State University’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Tickets are available for $5 at the door; admission for seniors is priced at $3, and students are admitted free with a valid ID.

Guest soloist Daley earned an artist diploma from the Berklee College of Music and currently teaches guitar at the McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minn. He also has worked in a variety of styles and venues as a freelance guitarist, performing in Broadway shows and at the Ordway Theatre in Minneapolis with the New Music Theatre Ensemble and the band Zeitgeist. Daley also has been a Minnesota Music Award recipent as the state’s top jazz-fusion guitarist.

Daley will also play in the Bemidji Jazz Quartet during the concert. In addition to Daley, the quartet is comprised of Steve Konecne, professor of music, on saxophone; Pat Riley, professor of music, on bass; and Greg Gaston, adjunct faculty in music, on drums. The quartet performs regularly in the Bemidji area and released its debut CD, “Jazz Standards, Vol. 1” last fall.
