BSU Jazz Band to Open Bemidji Concert Series Nov. 19

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Nov. 4, 2011) — Bemidji State University Jazz Band will feature trumpet soloist Kiku Collins at their Nov. 19 concert.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall in Bemidji State’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.  The band will perform a mix of jazz standards, along with big band arrangements of tunes from Collins’ two albums.

Collins is recognized for her musical abilities on the trumpet and flugelhorn.  She has established herself in the genres of pop, jazz, and R&B.  Collins has traveled the globe as a trumpeter with R&B icon Beyonce and pop crooner Michael Bolton.  As a producer, Collins honed her skills in the recording studios of the New York advertising scene. There, she produced music for a plethora of radio and television commercials and a varied list of clients, which include Sony, ABC, Phillips, and HBO.

Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens, and $5 for students.  Admission is free for Bemidji State students.
