BEMIDJI, Minn. (Dec. 21, 2011) — Megumi Naitoh, a ceramic artist originally from Tokyo, will have a mosaic exhibition entitled “Real Life/Virtual Life” opening Jan. 11 in the Talley Gallery in the Education Arts building on the Bemidji State University campus.
The show will run Jan. 11-Feb. 15 with an opening reception for the exhibition held at the gallery from noon-3 p.m. on Jan. 11.
Roman mosaics and their narratives of every day life inspired Naitoh to create a collection of works that represent modern daily life and the life people create on the Internet. Her unique mosaics are pixelated images with two vantage points. She is able to present two images, representing each world in a single mosaic. Through her work, guests will be able to see how the two worlds are intertwined and how easy it is to move from one to the other.
Naitoh received her master’s degree from Massachusetts College of Art and her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University. Naitoh is currently an associate professor of art at Emmanuel College in Boston.
Located in room 212 of the Education Arts building on BSU campus, the Talley Gallery is barrier-free and open at no charge to the public. All activities in the Talley Gallery are supported by the University’s Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee. The Talley Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
