BSU JazzFest Invitational to be Held Jan. 28

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Jan. 12, 2012) — The Bemidji State University Department of Music will hold their annual JazzFest Invitational Jan. 28 in the Thompson Recital Hall in Bemidji State’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the concert are $15 adults, $10 seniors, $5 all students.  Bemidji State students are free with ID.

The event will feature three bands from different areas around Minnesota; Bemidji, Thief River Falls, and Brainerd.  The bands will perform with guest trombonist Steve Turre on Saturday evening. The BSU Jazz Band is set to perform four tunes with Turre at the concert.

Turre is considered one of the world’s preeminent jazz innovators in the music world.  He has worked with a diverse list of musicians from the jazz, latin, and pop worlds including Dizzie Gillespie, Van Morrison, and Herbie Hancock.  Turre also plays with the Saturday Night Live band when he’s not touring.
