Bemidji State women’s studies program announces Women’s History Month activities

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University, its women’s studies program and its Women’s Resource Center will host or be involved with a month-long series of activities to celebrate March as Women’s History Month. The recognition of Women’s History Month kicks off Saturday, Feb. 28, with induction ceremonies for the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Hall of Fame and ends Saturday, March 28 with a downtown performance of the “Sister Song Project.”

Events surrounding the Women’s History Month celebration include:

• March 2-6: Countdown to International Women’s Day at the Hobson Memorial Union. All day.

• March 5-6: “Vagina Monologues,” presented by Bemidji State students in the Beaux Arts Ballroom.

• March 8: International Women’s Day

• March 18: Film, “Born in the USA.” Depicts the birth of children in the United States featuring obstetricians and nurse and home midwives. A discussion will follow with a midwife and a nursing student preparing for a career as a midwife. 3-5 p.m., Crying Wolf Room, Hobson Memorial Union.

• March 20: “Dust and Fire” reception for women authors. 6:30 p.m., American Indian Resource Center.

• March 25: “Women’s Role in Conservation: A Historical Perspective.” Center for Research and Innovation Brown-Bag Lunch training session by Dr. Mary Hrenchir, BSU history department. Noon, Center for Research and Innovation.

• March 28: “Sister Song Project,” an activity to promote scholarships for young women seeking careers in music. 6:30 p.m., Wild Rose Theater, downtown Bemidji. Event moves to Brigid’s Cross Irish Pub at 9 p.m.
