BEMIDJI, Minn. - Staff members of Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Program Center (OPC) will lead a trek to the “Lost 40,” a 40-acre stand of old growth white pine that eluded logging because of a mapping error, on Saturday, March 29.
Trekkers will hike unless snowfall requires snowshoes, which the OPC will supply. The group will leave at 10 a.m. from the OPC in the bottom floor of Hobson Memorial Union. It will travel by van to the Lost 40, which is in the Chippewa National Forest, an hour drive from Bemidji.
Free and open to the public, the trek will cover about two miles and return to the OPC at about 4 p.m. Participants should call to reserve a spot and bring their own snacks or lunch and a beverage.
This trip was originally scheduled for March 22, but was postponed because of the Easter weekend.
