Optivation offers online courses for commercial vehicle inspector re-certification, performance appraisals

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Oct. 10, 2011) — Optivation, a joint venture of Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, will sponsor on-line courses in commercial vehicle inspector re-certification and on workplace performance appraisals as part of its October, 2011, schedule of events.

Oct. 24, 2011: Commercial Vehicle Inspector re-certification
An online course for commercial vehicle inspectors whose certification is scheduled to expire or has expired within the past six months. This course is limited to 30 participants, and the course will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This course carries a fee of $100.

Oct. 31, 2011: Performance appraisals
The online course will address human resource topics including reward systems, performance management and retention from a strategic perspective. It will teach business managers how to retain good employees and coach for improved performance through the use of an employee performance management system. This course will discuss the importance of improving and correcting employee performance, as well as what to know when discipline and termination becomes necessary. By the end of this course, students will be familiar with different methods of performance appraisals; learn skills for coaching performance; discover ways to speak each employee’s reward language; be aware of needed documentation should termination become necessary; develop a corrective action and reward plan; and develop a performance appraisal form.

This course carries a fee of $200 and is presented by Lyndi Odegard.
