Sue Rickers, "The Experience of Self-Compassion in Social Workers." The lecture will explain the concept of self-compassion and examine a study on self-compassion among social workers who have completed a program on developing mindfulness, called Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. Rickers will show how this new research impacts practicing social workers and how important self-compassion can be for them.

Featuring guest performer Trent Austin, a celebrated trumpet artist, entrepreneur, clinician and educator. He has performed with a lengthy list of music legends, including Tony Bennett and Natalie Cole, and spent eleven years as a featured trumpet soloist with the famed Artie Shaw Orchestra. He has recorded four albums, the most recent being "Trumpet 102" in 2012.

Thomas Sonnleitner, Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services at the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, will be on campus Wednesday, February 13th, to talk about the different energy and waste projects they’ve done on their campus. They have installed solar thermal and solar photovoltaic panels, opened one of the first commercial anaerobic biodigesters in the country, use biomass in their heating plant, and have fleet vehicles that run on biofuels. They have also been working on green building and sustainable procurement. An open house reception will be held Monday, Feb. 25 from 1-6 p.m. in The Ramsey Gallery lobby; refreshments will be served with live music, and many of the participating artists will be available for a meet-and-greet.

Dr. Heidi Manning, professor of physics at Concordia College in Moorhead, will lecture about her work on the Mars "Curiosity" rover project. Manning's lecture, "The Curiosity Rover on Mars," will include an overview of the Curiosity mission, some details on the SAM instrument suite and a summary of the results obtained on the mission so far.

The auditions are open to instrumentalists and vocalists who are interested in Bemidji State's music program, and who will enter or transfer to the University in the fall of 2013. Students who are unable to be present on the February date may schedule an audition on or prior to March 2, 2013. Recorded auditions are accepted for all but full and half-tuition scholarships.
