Application Requirements
for:
Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction Workshops
- For writers at any stage of development
who work hard at their writing and want to better
understand the creative act
- A five to ten page writing sample
in the genre you are applying for must be submitted. Writing samples will not be returned.
- Participants are selected on the basis of promise or accomplishment in the writing
sample.
- Submissions will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Applicants will be notified
of results within two weeks; successful applicants
will receive a registration packet with the results
letter.
*A writing sample is not required if you are applying in a genre for a workshop
that you've previously attended at the Minnesota Northwoods Writers Conference.

Imaging Workshop

Novice Workshop
- Writing experience is not
required.
- Send application form to
receive registration packet.
General Information
- The Poetry,
Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, and Novice Workshops
are each limited to thirteen participants.
- The
Symbolic Imaging Workshop is limited to ten participants.
- Applications and registrations
are processed first-come, first-served.
- Applications and writing samples
may be submitted
electronically (available soon), or by downloading a printable
application for mailing.

Application and
Registration Process
Applicants to the Novice Workshop only need to send
us the application. No writing sample is required.
Once we receive your application we will send you a
registration packet with instructions. Seats will be
filled on a first-come, first-served basis based on
completed registration.
Applicants to the Poetry, Fiction, and Creative Nonfiction
Workshops should send us an application and a five
to ten page writing sample.
You will receive a response
within two weeks and, if you are accepted, it will
include a registration packet with instructions.
At this point your seat in the workshop is held for
two weeks. If we do not receive your completed registration
form and full payment of your conference fee we then
send you a reminder. If you don?t register
after that, we place you on a waiting list and open
the seat to someone else.
When we receive your paid registration we guarantee your
seat for the conference. We will send you a confirmation
letter and some additional information (maps, etc.).
Options
Individual
Faculty Conference
Half hour conference with your workshop's faculty member
on a manuscript submitted in advance.
University
Credit
The conference may be taken for two undergraduate or
graduate credits, additional fee will apply.
Fees & Optional Costs
Conference Fee:
$495 ($470, before March 1)
Includes:
- Participation in one
workshop
- All evening Reading Series
events
- All afternoon events
- Three conference meals (*See daily schedule for
details)
Symbolic
Modeling Workshop Fee: $535 ($510, before March 1)
Includes:
- All of the above
- Individual consultation
Scholarships: $270 awarded towards conference fee
(participant pays balance)
- One awarded in each;
Creative Nonfiction, Poetry and Fiction
- Deadline: March 1, 2008
- To Apply: include in conference application a one-page (double-spaced)
statement of what you hope to gain from the conference.
- Scholarships
will be awarded on the literary merit or promise of the work sample.
Optional fees:
Individual consultation with faculty member:
- $30/half hour (advanced
manuscript submission required)
University Credits, Minnesota Residents (2):
- Undergraduate, $386.78
- Graduate, $520.78
Refunds for Cancellations
Before June 1, 2008:
A $30.00
cancellation fee will be deducted from the conference
fee. The remainder
of the fee will be refunded. All other fees
will be fully refunded.
After June 1, 2008: Absolutely no
refunds for the conference fee will be made after
June 1. All other fees will be fully refunded.
