A Warm Minnesota Welcome!

We welcome each and every one of you to the “Walk the Talk” MN National Physical Education Conference—Brainerd XII. We are so excited that you are choosing to attend this conference and sincerely hope that it meets your needs and expectations. We come together in MN (during a warm month) to Walk the Talk—about the good things that health and physical education teachers do for kids—about how we need to advocate for the physical, cognitive and affective capabilities of students—about striving to teach health and physical education using promising practice techniques and strategies—about designing curriculum around national standards and benchmarks—simply put, about doing what is best for kids.

Our conference theme for 2008 is “50 Ways to Meet the Standards”.  The national and state presenters have prepared sessions to help you walk toward the goal of creating and advocating for quality physical education and health programs.  Their session content is aligned with the MN PE and Health Standards which also align with NASPE Standards. Presenters will share new ideas and activities you can implement when you return to school next fall.  Please find time to chat with them as they wish to hear some of your great stories.

Take some time to re-acquaint with old friends and to meet new colleagues that share this professional development journey with you.  We want to provide activities that allow you the chance to network, share your ideas, concerns and expertise.  Take time out for your own personal learning and enjoyment—try skiing or wakeboarding with Cragun’s waterfront instructors.  You all realized the importance of staying in contact with the people who support you and your efforts.  It is easier to manage change with the help of friends, both old and new.

We are honored that you have chosen this conference to further your knowledge and understanding about quality physical education, health, and adapted physical education from early childhood through the adult levels.  Our goal is to help you learn this in a practical way by offering this conference as an opportunity for both your professional and personal growth.

Please, make yourself comfortable and enjoy your stay.  We will do everything we can to make this possible.  In the spirit of past Brainerd conferences, we encourage everyone to work hard, play hard and enjoy the beautiful Brainerd lakes area.
