Biography

Dr. Jessica Durgan is an Associate Professor of English. Her areas of interest are 19th Century British Literature, Postcolonial Theory and Empire Studies, and Film Studies. At Bemidji State, she teaches courses in British literature, film, and writing.

Recent Work

She is the author of Art, Race, and Fantastic Color Change in the Victorian Novel (Routledge 2019), and has published essays in the book collections The Victorian Era in Twenty-First Century Children's and Adolescent Literature and Culture and Eighteenth-Century Thing Theory in a Global Context: From Consumerism to Celebrity Culture. She also has had articles appear in the journals Victorian Literature and Culture, Partial Answers, and Persuasions Online.
