IP Student Enrollment

To all D2L Users:

Each semester, I receive a number of requests from instructors to enroll IP students in a current D2L class shell for a class that the student took in a previous semester. There seems to be some confusion about the process so hopefully the information below will help clear this up.

As explained to me by Bob Griggs from discussions with Dave Carlson, for auditing purposes, when an instructor wants to enroll an IP student in a current D2L class shell for the same class that the student took in a previous semester, I need to ask the instructor to send me the request in the body of an email.

To facilitate this process, the email must include the following:

  1. the student's name and student ID (the student ID is critical)
  2. the course name and course ID
  3. the reason for the request (a simple statement that this is an IP student is sufficient)

I would also ask the instructor to include an appropriate title in the Subject box of the email, such as "IP student request."

NOTE: This request should go only to me, not to Theresa or Brian, because I will archive this information for auditing purposes.

If any of the requested information is not included, I will reply to the email asking for the missing information.

NOTE: The documentation described above is not necessary when an instructor asks me to change a student's role in the original D2L class shell from Student to IP Student. The IP Student role gives the student access to his/her D2L shell past the end date. ** The instructor just needs to know that he/she should email me when the student has finished his/her work and ask me to change the student's role from IP Student back to Student. Otherwise, the student will have continuous access to the original D2L class shell.
