E-mail

Below is some information about using the university email system.

Accessing Faculty & Staff Email

There are two ways of checking your university email: using the Groupwise client on your computer or using the web-based Groupwise WebAccess.

1. Groupwise Client

Most university computers come with the Groupwise client pre-installed. If it is not installed on your computer, you can download it from the MyBSU Portal. Just login to MyBSU, select "Software Downloads" on the left, and then select the correct version of the client for your operating system.

2. WebAccess

You can access your university email from anywhere using Groupwise WebAccess.

  • Go to the MyBSU Portal and login with your Novell username and password
  • Click on "WebAccess" on the left.
If your Novell password is the same as your Email password then you will be automatically logged into your university email; otherwise you will be prompted for your Email password.

Emailing Students

When corresponding with students via email, faculty & staff should use the student's university-assigned email address. By university policy students are responsible to monitor their university-assigned email accounts.

Student email addresses are in the following format.

  • <first_name>.<last_name>@st.bemidjistate.edu

For example:

  • john.doe@st.bemidjistate.edu

If you need to send a student a message and you don't know their email, you can search for them in the Student Directory and send a message to their university email.
