Virus & Spam Protection

Email Filtering - Virus & Spam

BSU and NTC have an institutional license to use Ironport - an industrial-strength anti-spam, anti-virus solution. Since it was implemented in Fall 2008 (BSU) and Summer 2009 (NTC) there has been a dramatic reduction in spam, phishing attacks and messages infected with viruses. Ironport automatically intercepts email messages before they reach your mailbox.

Virus Protection Software

Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection

BSU and NTC computers should come with System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection pre-installed.

To check if this is installed or to run a scan:

Windows 7:

  • Click on the Windows menu button in lower left corner of your screen
  • In the search area, type "Endpoint" and the application should pop up in the list and you can open it from there

Mac OS:

  • Look for the green square icon in the upper right of the screen, next to the clock
  • Click on it for a menu of actions
  • If you are currently missing the green square icon, please contact helpdesk@bemidjistate.edu

Contact the Faculty & Staff Help Desk if you have further questions.

Microsoft Windows Updates

BSU faculty and staff machines are typically automatically updated.  However, if you would like to get the latest updates immediately, please follow these steps:

  • Click on the Windows menu button in the lower left corner of your screen
  • Type "update" in the search area and click on Windows Update from the list
  • If updates are already waiting, choose Install Updates
  • If Windows is up to date you can close the window or click Check online for updates to check again
