General Classroom Information
The SuperLab Classrooms are designed with the intent of being used for classes with a presentation style. To facilitate this learning, each classroom is equipped with an instructor's workstation and overhead projector. As a separate room from the main SuperLab, each classroom also has the ability to have individuals lights turned off and doors closed. When a classroom is reserved, the SuperLab WILL NOT assign students computers in the classroom area, so a classroom setting is preserved where an instructor may use the overhead projector, close doors, or turn off lights.
When the SuperLab classrooms are in not use for a class, they are considered a part of the main floor area of the SuperLab, and the rules that apply to the main floor area are applied to the classrooms. While instructors are free to offer one on one instruction to students in the classrooms when not in a reservation situation, the SuperLab WILL assign students in the classroom area, so an instructor may not use the overhead projector, close doors, or turn off lights.
When a class comes to the SuperLab, each student in the class MUST present her or his student ID at the SuperLab desk to be admitted to the classroom. A student who does not have his or her student ID will be asked to wait at the desk area until the instructor has an opportunity to come to the SuperLab Desk, at which time the instructor may choose to (or not to) vouch for those students. (It is not necessary for the instructor to present an ID.)
If a class does not arrive promptly to use a classroom which is reserved, the reservation will be held for 15 minutes after the start of the reservation. If after these 15 minutes, the class has not arrived the reservation is LOST, and the SuperLab will open the classroom to use as with the main floor area.
Classroom Scheduling Policies
An instructor wishing to use a SuperLab classroom must first reserve the classroom with the SuperLab Manager (Melissa Arneson x3777). This reservation must be made at least 8 days in advance of the actual reservation since the reservation books are finalized one week in advance so that students are able to also reserve individual computers in the SuperLab. The ResSched scheduling software will help us to eliminate scheduling problems.
It is recommended that anyone who will be teaching a class in a SuperLab classroom should come to the SuperLab in advance of the actual class and use a computer in the SuperLab. This will allow the instructor to become acquainted with the SuperLab computers as well as to have the opportunity to test the application that will be used in the class to ensure the application is working properly.
To ensure that students have adequate access to the SuperLab computers, classes in the SuperLab classrooms are restricted to use under the following conditions from 8AM to 9PM Monday to Friday. It is our goal to have the classrooms fully utilized during the hours between 8AM and 6PM.
