Customer Usage Policies

General Policies and Procedures

  • The SuperLab is a place for students to do their school assignments. Lab employees are NOT here to do customers' homework. If a customer does not understand his/her assignment or does not know how to use the programs which are assigned, she/he should consult the professor who assigned the work.
  • Under no curcumstances will any software be installed on BSU Computerlab computers. If found installing illegal software on Computerlab computers, students could be brought up on diciplinary charges.
  • Should a SuperLab customer need assistance with the operation of a computer or application in the SuperLab, the customer may receive assistance from a Lab employee at the Help Desk.
  • SuperLab employees are students just like our customers, and can not be guaranteed to always have answers to every question. While the Lab attempts to be as helpful as possible, there are no guarantees for help in every situation.
  • We DO NOT give extended individual instruction whenever a customer chooses to ask for it.

Customer Identification
Upon entering the SuperLab, a customers must present appropriate identification card (as defined below) at the SuperLab Front Desk. The SuperLab Desk Employee will then present the customer with a Computer ID Card to be affixed to the monitor of the assigned computer. When a customer has completed using the computer, the Computer ID Card is returned at the Front Desk in exchange for the customer's identification card.

  • All customers must present a current BSU Identification Card (ID) or a Lab Use Card upon entrance to the SuperLab (including those in classes), with the following exceptions:
    • Workshop Participants
    • Others as permitted by the SuperLab Manager or CIO
  • During the first two weeks of each semester, or during the first week of each summer session, a class schedule or Cashiers receipt will substitute for a current BSU ID.
  • Customers wishing to use the SuperLab must present their own BSU Identification Card.
  • For legal reasons, the SuperLab can not accept a driver's license as a substitute for a BSU Identification Card.

Printing
Printing is provided to all customers of the SuperLab as outlined below. Laser printers are located behind the SuperLab Print Desk, and prints may be retrieved only be SuperLab employees. They will be placed in trays with names of the corresponding printer they were retrieved from.

  • Printing to black and white laser printers is provided at no charge. Customers may pick up laser prints at the Print Desk near the front of the SuperLab.
  • Printing to black and white laser printers may be done by SuperLab customers.
  • If possible only FINAL copies of papers should be sent to the black and white laser printers. (Should this policy be abused, free black and white laser printing may be revoked at the discretion of the SuperLab Manager and the Director of Computer Services.)
  • The laser printers are NOT copying machines. For multiple copies, a customer should use the photocopier or go to the Campus Print Shop. If a customer prints multiple copies of a single document, the customer will ONLY receive ONE of these copies.
  • Printing to the black and white laser printers will only be done on the white 20 pound paper the SuperLab provides. NO color paper, parchment paper, or transparencies should go through the SuperLab black and white laser printers.
  • Printing to a toner-based color printer costs $1.00 per page on paper and $2.00 per page on transparency film.
  • Printing to color printers (toner-based and thermal wax) is only to be done by appropriate SuperLab employees from the Color Print Desk. This is done to ensure that should an error in printing occur, the customer is not at fault. HOWEVER, customers need to ensure that the prints requested will fit on the appropriate number of pages, will be the appropriate colors, etc. A customer who forgoes this rule will need to pay for ANY print they produce regardless of the output, and will not be allowed to color print AT ALL until all pages have been paid for.
  • To have a document printed in color, the customer should bring the media in which the file resides to the Color Print Desk. Further instructions for specifics of color printing are available at the Print Desk.
  • University employees who would like to do "official" laser printing must bring an Authorization Slip from the office requesting the printing. The account number and the name of the office or department must be photocopied on the blank (not written in pen or pencil) to ensure authenticity. If a Lab customer is confused by this rule, please see the SuperLab Manager.
  • All used printer paper is recyclable and should be placed in the recycling bins.

  • Customers who have requests for specific computers, software or equipment must indicate this when they make a reservation.
