Jan. 10 RESN session highlights business ethics

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Regional Employer Support Network will feature a presentation entitled “Business Ethics for Human Resources Professionals” from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. January 10 at the Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation, located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.

The session is free and open to all who want to learn more about the topic. For additional information, check online at http://www.cri-bsu.org or by calling the CRI at (218) 755-4900 or (888) 738-3224.

Presenting will be Rand Park, associate development officer, University of Minnesota, St. Paul.

“Business Ethics is a hot topic for managers and HR professionals, but how would you respond if your CEO asked you to develop an ethics program?” Park said. “This presentation will break down the primary ethical issues faced by companies and organizations, provide guidance to those who draft and manage company policies and guidelines, and share resources for those who are interested in developing a company or organizational code of ethics and ethics training and compliance program.”

Park, M.A., J.D., is a development officer for The Food Industry Center, an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Industry Studies Center based in the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Hamline University since 1997, teaching courses in legal ethics and business ethics in both the law school and graduate school of management.

The Regional Employer Support Network was formed after employers in the region expressed the need for a network of professionals involved in human resources development and management. It usually meets the first Thursday of each month with regular sessions lasting two hours and quarterly sessions lasting longer. The January, 2008 schedule was altered in response to the New Year’s Day holiday. The sessions are open to anyone interested in learning more about the featured topic.

CRI staff members help facilitate RESN activities, and organizations collaborating to support the group include North Country Health Services, North Country Business Products, Potlatch, Bi-CAP, Johanneson, Inc., Pinnacle Publishing and Anderson Fabrics.
