BEMIDJI, Minn. – Rick Demers will discuss how and why to develop incident reports within businesses, agencies and nonprofits during a 9 a.m. Regional Employer Support Network presentation Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation (CRI), located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.
The two-hour session is free and open to anyone interested in the topic, although it will specifically benefit individuals who have to write incident reports or supervise others responsible for creating those documents.
A training specialist at Leech Lake Gaming in Cass Lake, Minn., Demers will explain the rules governing incident reporting, which notes anything out of the ordinary that an organization chooses to track. The process may provide legal protection, document disciplinary issues, or monitor important information for an organization.
“In many cases, if you don’t document it, it never happened,” Demers said. “If it is not done in a timely fashion, you lose track of credible proof as to what happened and how you responded.”
Participants will be given a formula for writing a single paragraph incident report and some common grammar hints that make writing easier.
Demers received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in counseling psychology from the University of North Dakota. In addition to writing personnel documents, his training encompasses management and leadership topics and as well stress management and conflict resolution issues.
The Regional Employer Support Network was formed after area employers expressed the need for a network of professionals involved in human resource development and management. CRI staff facilitate network activities with support provided by North Country Health Services, North Country Business Products, Potlatch, Bi-CAP, Pinnacle Publishing, Anderson Fabrics, and Johanneson’s, Inc.
