BEMIDJI, Minn. — Margie Giauque will explore ways individuals can find satisfaction in their work life when she presents “Take this Job and Love It” during a noon Brown Bag Lunch program June 10 in the Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the one-hour session, which is open free to the public at the center’s off-campus facility at 3801 Bemidji Ave. North.
The director of Career Services at Bemidji State, Giauque will explain a re-careering process where employees strive to make themselves stand out as indispensible to their current employer or to better position themselves for a job shift where they might find more personal fulfillment.
“The focus will be on evaluating a person’s skills to more closely help them find the right fit in their current position,” Giauque explained. “In today’s job market, the reality is most people are not able to relocate to find that perfect career. As a result, they will need to assess their current situation and see if there is a way they can make some positive changes that will make them feel more fulfilled. If they cannot, then they may need to look at different positions.”
The process involves several activities that delve into personal strengths, career interests, personal values, experiences and skills. It also may include an assessment of career interests as well as opportunities for self promotion within the workplace.
Giauque has been the director of Career Services at Bemidji State since 1994. Her responsibilities include managing the procedures to assist placement of University graduates in jobs, facilitating internship opportunities for undergraduates, organizing career searches or career fairs on campus and delivering numerous workshops that assist students in preparation for entering the workforce.
Before accepting her current position, she was at the Career Center and Minnesota State University, Mankato as an associate director for one year and as an assistant director for eight years. She is a frequent presenter at state and regional professional meetings on such topics as career advisory boards, resume writing, career planning and alumni career networking.
She received her undergraduate degree in social work and a master’s in counseling from the University of North Dakota, where she has also completed doctoral course work in educational leadership.
