BEMIDJI, Minn. (October 19, 2009) — The Gothenburg Combo, a world-reknowned guitar duo from Gothenburg, Sweden, will perform Friday, Oct. 30, as the second performance in the 2009 Bemidji Concert Series, presented by Bemidji State University.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall of Bemidji State’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Individual event tickets are $20 for the general public and $5 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the BSU Department of Music, Lueken’s Village Foods North and Tutto Bene.  If available, tickets also will be sold at the door.

The Gothenburg Combo
The Gothenburg Combo is one of the most exciting and hypnotic ensembles touring the world today. With a fresh, personal approach to the classical guitar tradition, technical perfection and an unusually powerful stage presence, they have left audiences and critics throughout the world spellbound.

Striving for maximum communication with the audience, first and foremost through their musicianship and also through their entertaining and charming way of presenting the music, the Gothenburg Combo immediately draws on the true nature and soul of chamber music, providing conversation, a spirited “dialogue”, between the musicians and the audience. They bring the classical repertory into our time, making it sound so fresh and natural it could have been written today.

In 2004, The Gothenburg Combo won the first prize and the audiences prize in ”13eme Concours Internationale de Guitare en Duo” in Montelimar, France, the most prestigious competition for duo guitarists. Since then, the duo has toured regularly throughout Europe, the United States, China and South America.

The Bemidji Concert Series performance is part of a 2009 tour that will see the Gothenburg Combo perform in the United States, the Dominican Republic, England, Germany, Holland, Finland, Denmark and Sweden.

History and sponsorship
The Bemidji Concert Series began seven years ago with the goal of making Bemidji the cultural center for northern Minnesota and providing the Bemidji region with music that could not commonly be heard without traveling to the Twin Cities.

The series is supported by sponsorships from the BSU Department of Music, Bemidji Pioneer, the Villa Calma Bed & Breakfast on Lake Boulevard, Paul Bunyan Telephone and the BSU Student Activity Allocation Committee.
