Oct. 6 Brown Bag Lunch: introduction to waste management

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sept. 30, 2010) — In 2009, fines levvied by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency against companies for failure to comply with state and federal regulations regarding hazardous waste management averaged more than $6,000 each. Michael Twite, founder of Headwaters Environmental, Inc., will help companies learn how to maintain compliance with these regulations during an Oct. 6 Brown Bag Lunch presentation, hosted by Bemidji State University’s Optivation venture.

Brown Bag Luncheons are held from noon to 1 p.m. at Optivation’s 3801 Bemidji Ave. North location in Bemidji. No advance registration is required, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch. The sessions are free and open to anyone interested in the presentation.

Twite has more than 17 years experience in the manufacturing sector and has been a maintenance supervisor, project manager, and environmental manager for multiple wood products manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada. For the last 14 years, he has been educating industry professionals on proper hazardous waste management methods — including waste characterization, storage, disposal, effective employee training, record keeping and other techniques — while complying with state and federal regulations.

Twite’s Brown Bag Lunch presentation will also serve as an introduction to a full length class, “Hazardous Waste Management for Minnesota,” that he will teach later this fall.
