Four finalists named for provost position at Bemidji State University

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Feb. 3, 2012) — Bemidji State University today announced the names of four finalists vying for its position of provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The finalists are:
Dr. Barbara Keinath [CV-437k PDF], vice provost and dean of graduate studies, Metropolitan State University, St. Paul, Minn.;
Dr. Mary Kay Helling [CV-148k PDF], associate vice president for academic affairs, South Dakota State University, Brookings, S.D.;
Dr. Sandra Lemoine [CV-166k PDF], dean of the college of education and human development, University of Louisiana at Monroe; and
Dr. Martin Tadlock [CV-291k PDF], provost and vice president for academic affairs, Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Okla.

On-campus interviews with the finalists begin Tuesday, February 7, and continue through Friday, February 17.

• Dr. Barbara Keinath — on campus February 7-8
Keinath has been a vice provost and the dean of graduate studies at Metropolitan State University since 2007. She has been a professor of management at Metropolitan State since 1989, and from 2003-07 was its director of online learning. Prior to joining Metropolitan State University, she held roles in student affairs and residential life at Minnesota State University, Mankato. She is on the panel of judges for the Minnesota Quality Award and has been a Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award examiner.

Keinath holds a bachelor’s degree in German and a master’s degree in college student personnel from Michigan State University. Her doctorate in educational administration was earned from the University of Minnesota.

• Dr. Mary Kay Helling — on campus February 9-10
Helling has been an associate vice president for academic affairs at South Dakota State University since 2005; she also has been dean of the graduate school since 2010. From 2003-05, she was the assistant vice president of academic affairs. Prior to her administrative roles, she worked her way through the tenure-track ranks, becoming a full professor in 2001 in the department of human development, consumer and family sciences. Besides being a department head for several years, she also was active in acquiring external funding, presenting and publishing in the area of early childhood.

Helling earned a bachelor’s of science in child development and family relations and a master’s degree of science in child development and family relations from South Dakota State University. Her doctorate in child development and family studies was earned from Purdue University.

• Dr. Sandra M. Lemoine — on campus February 13-14
Lemoine has served as dean of the college of education and human development at the University of Louisiana at Monroe since 2007. From 2005-07, she was dean of the college of education at Lander University. Lemoine was at Shenandoah University from 1993-2002 and from 2002-05 was a professor and department chair of kinesiology at Mississippi College. Prior to that, she spent 12 years as an associate professor at Louisiana Tech University. She has had multiple visiting lecturer assignments in Russia and has completed multiple summer fellowships with NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Lemoine holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree of science in physical education from Louisiana Tech University. Her doctorate in physical education with an emphasis in exercise physiology is from the University of Southern Mississippi.

• Dr. Martin Tadlock  — on campus February 16-17
Tadlock is currently the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Northeastern (Oklahoma) State University. He was the assistant vice chancellor with responsibilities for lifelong learning and community engagement at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 2007-09 and the dean of the college of professional studies and graduate school at the California University – Monterey Bay from 2006-07. He was the dean of the college of professional studies and graduate studies at Bemidji State University from 2001-06. Previously, he held various faculty and administrative roles in the college of education at Utah State University. Throughout his administrative roles, he has been integral in creating many international, national, and regional partnerships and collaborations.

Tadlock holds a bachelor’s degee of science in English and geography and a master’s degree in secondary education and English from Utah State University. His doctorate is in educational administration and leadership from Miami University of Ohio.
