Ben Gubrud, a senior in environmental studies at Bemidji State University, is spending the summer studying nesting birds and aquatic vegetation at the Agassiz Valley Water Resources Project flood control impoundment.
Gubrud, originally from Warren, MN, will be installing and monitoring bluebird nest boxes as well as monitoring ten kestrel nest boxes. He will also be lead bird tours for Agassiz Valley impoundment and Audobon Center visitors.
In his spare time, Gubrud enjoys hunting and does not consider himself a birdwatcher, however he has said “it’s great to see the white pelicans, sandhill cranes and northern harriers out at the impoundment.”
“It was awesome to be the first to see 5 eggs and the female kestrel in one of our boxes,” he said
