Bemidji State offers one of the nation’s most-affordable online educations

Bemidji State University has been named one of the most-affordable universities in the nation for obtaining an online education.

“BSU’s online programs offer the same standards in faculty and curriculum that our on-campus students find in a traditional classroom.” Lynn Johnson, director of BSU’s Center for Extended Learning, said. “This ranking illustrates how the quality of our support programs for online students, the credentials of our faculty and the delivery of relevant programming combine to create an affordable, high-quality experience for our online students.”

Bemidji State’s Center for Extended Learning offers seven undergraduate programs and five graduate programs that can be completed entirely online. Students enrolled at BSU and living out-of-state pay the same tuition rates as Minnesota residents.

Edudemic’s rankings score colleges and universities using a weighted formula that includes a variety of factors including retention rate, graduation rate, in-state and out-of-state tuition and breadth of offerings.

“The colleges on our list aren’t the cheapest online colleges,” Edudemic said in a release announcing its rankings. “’Cheap’ is a meaningless indicator of an online school’s affordability since it does not take into account your ability to pay or what type of education you actually receive. Instead, we’re looking for low-cost, high-quality programs.”

Oregon State University was the top school in Edudemic’s listing. Other Minnesota schools included in the rankings are the University of Minnesota (17th), Concordia University-St. Paul (87th) and the University of Minnesota Crookston (98th).
