Faculty and staff from Bemidji State University’s business administration, accounting and computer information systems programs gathered in Memorial Hall on Feb. 13 to celebrate successful reaccreditation by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).
“This is quite an accomplishment, and it’s extremely important for the university,” said Dr. Faith C. Hensrud, president of BSU and Northwest Technical College. “One of the things that this will help us do is help us with recruiting students, and it will help us with our relationships with the business environment as well. It really does signify the quality of the teaching and the relevance of the programs here at Bemidji State.”
The accredited programs, part of BSU’s College of Business, undertook a rigorous self-evaluation; a comprehensive, independent peer review; and demonstrated compliance with the IACBE’s nine accreditation principles: outcomes assessment, strategic planning, curriculum, faculty, scholarly and professional activities, resources, internal and external relationships, international business education and educational innovation.
Dr. Joann Fredrickson, professor of business administration, offered extensive thanks to those who had helped support the reaccreditation effort, including faculty, staff, students and community partners.
“We have so much to celebrate,” Fredrickson said. “And ‘we’ is more than just business and accounting – we’re three academic departments, eight academic programs, 30 faculty and students in more than 300 course sections. Even though the work continues, we needed to pause and celebrate.”
IACBE accreditation is valid for seven years and is contingent upon the programs remaining in compliance with the assembly’s principles and policies.
