BSU Insider Faculty & Staff News – May 2015

Dr. Mahmoud Al-Odeh, associate professor of technology, art & design, has received Quality Matters certification for TADT 4878, Quality Assurance. Quality Matters is a faculty-centered peer review process designed to certify the quality of online and blended-delivery courses. It is Al-Odeh’s second course to receive the certification; his TADT 3700 Production Planning and Control course was certified in 2013.

Dr. Jeanine Gangeness, founding dean of the Bemidji School of Nursing, has been named associate vice president at Winona State University and will work at the university’s Rochester campus as its chief academic and operations administrator. Gangeness came to BSU in 2003 as a faculty member in nursing, and was named founding dean of the Bemidji School of Nursing in 2012. She begins her new role July 1.

Dr. Troy Gilbertson, professor of criminal justice, has been named interim dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Ecology. He will take over for the departing Dr. James Barta, who had been interim dean since 2013. Gilbertson’s new role begins Aug. 1.

Dr. Patrick Guilfoile, associate vice president for academic affairs, has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He will begin his new position July 1. Guilfoile has been at BSU since 1994, first as a biology professor and later as chair of the biology department. He then served as the associate dean of two colleges before he assumed the position of associate vice president for academic affairs in 2009.

Bill Maki, vice president for finance and administration at BSU and Northwest Technical College since 2004, has been named president of the five-campus Northeast Higher Education District, a consortium of Hibbing Community College, Itasaca Community College, Mesabi Range College, Rainy River Community College and Vermilion Community College. His new position begins July 1.

Dr. Sheila Paul, associate professor of nursing, has earned Quality Matters certification for NRSG 3920, Directed Group Study. Quality Matters is a faculty-centered peer review process designed to certify the quality of online and blended-delivery courses.
