Lin Sisters concert concludes Bemidji Concert Series, April 11

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Chiu-Ling Lin and Chiu-Tze Lin, known as the dynamic Lin sisters for their unique rapport as duo pianists, will perform Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. as the final installment of the sixth annual Bemidji Concert Series presented by the Bemidji State University Department of Music.

The concert will be held in the Thompson Recital Hall of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex on the Bemidji State campus. Individual event tickets are $20 for the general public and $10 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the BSU Department of Music, Lueken’s Village Foods North and Tutto Bene or, if available, at the door.

While in Bemidji, the Lin sisters also will perform the St. Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals” with the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra at the Bemidji High School Auditorium on Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m.

In addition to performing together, the Lin sisters each have acclaimed careers as soloists, delighting audiences with their unique mix of music by Chinese and Western composers.

Chiu-Ling Lin
An energetic and passionate performer, Chiu-Ling Lin has performed around the world including a tour through Peru, Argentina and Brazil as the United States Information Agency’s Artistic Ambassador to Latin America. She made her Carnegie Recital Hall debut as the winner of the East and West Young Artists Auditions and has soloed with 14 orchestras, including the Atlanta Symphony, the Chicago Civic Orchestra and the Singapore Symphony. She currently serves as the principal keyboard player with the Des Moines Symphony. As a soloist, she has delighted audiences in New York, Chicago, England, Canada and the Far East. Her virtuosity is showcased in her CD, “Portraits of China.”

Chiu-Tze Lin
A Steinway artist, Chiu-Tze Lin began performing in Singapore and made her acclaimed New York debut in Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall in 1988. She repeated her success at New York’s Merkin Concert Hall in 1990. Through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, she toured as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared with the Cincinnati Symphony and was a featured artist on National Public Radio. She also is an accomplished conductor, directing choirs and orchestras in major oratorios and serving as music director of the Princeton Presbyterian Church. In 2001, she was selected the “Hottest Artist in New Jersey” by the “Ashbury Park Press.”

History and sponsorship
The Bemidji Concert Series began in 2003 with the goal of making Bemidji the cultural center for northern Minnesota and providing the Bemidji region with music that could not commonly be heard without traveling to the Twin Cities. All performances of the series are held at BSU’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.

The series is supported by sponsorships from the BSU Department of Music, Bemidji “Pioneer,” the Bemidji Super 8 Motel, and the BSU Student Activity Allocation Committee.
