BSU hosting Oct. 27 Rock Now, Vote Soon concert

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidji State University College Democrats will be sponsoring a “Rock Now, Vote Soon” concert featuring the band Trampled by Turtles at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27. The event will be held in room 100 of Memorial Hall on the Bemidji State campus, and is free and open to the public.

Trampled by Turtles are Dave Simonett, vocals and guitar; Tim Saxhaug, bass and vocals; Dave Carroll, banjo and vocals; Erik Berry, mandolin and vocals; and Ryan Young, fiddle. An American folk-rock band from Duluth, Minn. which describes its music as thrashgrass, Trampled by Turtles has toured across the country with bands such as Pert’ Near Sandstone, White Iron Band, Lucero and Cracker. The band made its debut with 2004’s “Songs from a Ghost Town” and will release its fifth full-length album, “Duluth,” on Oct. 28.

Special guests confirmed for the show include U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken; Congressman Collin Peterson from Minnesota’s seventh congressional district; state representative Frank Moe; and candidate for state representative John Persell.

The College Democrats is a student-run political organization open to all students who are interested in the Democratic party. The club is founded to advance the interest of university Democrats and the active participation of young people in politics. The purpose of this organization is to train leaders, educate young Americans and promote good government. To achieve its purpose of consolidation of Democratic interest among students, the organization enters into activities of local, state and national political interest.
