Bemidji State to host 13th Annual Jingle Bell Jazz Concert

BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University will usher in the holidays with its 13th annual Jingle Bell Jazz Concert featuring jazz arrangements of well-known holiday favorites at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Thompson Recital Hall of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.

Performing will be BSU Jazz Band I and II. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students K-12 and senior citizens, and free for BSU students.

Jazz I, directed by Dr. Darrin Oehlerking, will offer arrangements of “Yo Tannenbaum!,” “Let It Snow,” and “Christmas Time is Here,” as well as other tunes such as “Basie-Straight Ahead” and “All the Things You Are.” New this year is an arrangement of “Sugar Rum Cherry,” a Duke Ellington version of the “Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairies” from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Ballet.”

Jazz II, directed by Craig Haugen, will also present a selection of holiday favorites, including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “A Child Is Born,” and “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.”
