Bemidji State University’s renowned Bemidji Choir includes 59 students, 25 of whom are majoring in something other than music, for its 2014-15 performance season.
The choir, under the direction of Professor of Music Dr. P. Bradley Logan, provides BSU students with an outlet for their music talents and brings choral music to audiences in Bemidji and beyond. Membership in the choir is by audition; it rehearses daily and is one of the most active student groups on campus.
The Bemidji Choir, founded in 1937 by Carl O. Thompson, has gained an international reputation for excellence. It has represented the United States five times at the international choral festival, The Europa Cantat: in France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain. They have appeared in the Israel Festival and at the Zimriya, World Festival of Choirs in Israel. They have also performed at national and regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference. Every three years The Bemidji Choir undertakes a foreign tour. In addition to concerts, tours and recordings, the choir has produced Bemidji State’s Madrigal Dinners and Opera Nights for more than four decades.
