Industrial technology program receives accreditation

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The industrial technology program in Bemidji State University’s College of Professional Studies recently received full accreditation from the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT). The accreditation became effective in November and continues through October of 2011.

NAIT accreditation ensures that an institution has met a series of standards to provide industry with highly competent employees and assures the graduate of a NAIT-accredited program that they are receiving a marketable degree through relevant curricula. Institutions that earn accreditation from NAIT confirm their commitment to quality and continuous improvement through a rigorous and comprehensive review process.

“I would like to say that the recent accreditation of the industrial technology program is an accomplishment that we are all proud of.,” said Darren Olson, chair of BSU’s Department of Technological Studies. “We believe that it will increase recognition of the University and the department at the national level. We hope that interest in the program among potential students and their parents will increase. Just as importantly, maintaining accreditation status will help the faculty keep the program at the leading edge of industrial technology curriculum and to insure continued delivery of high-quality instruction.

“Personally, I would like to thank all of the Industrial Technology faculty members, but in particular, Dr. William Brauer deserves special recognition as the driving force behind our success,” Olson added. ”We would no have been successful without his vision and tireless efforts.”

BSU’s industrial technology program has emphasis areas in construction management, manufacturing management, manufacturing technology and model making.

Industrial technology is a field of study designed to prepare technical and/or management-oriented professionals for employment in business, industry, education and government. Industrial technology is primarily involved with the management, operation and maintenance of complex technological systems.
