Talley Gallery to feature 2011 visual arts scholarship show

BEMIDJI, Minn. (March 28, 2011) — Students in Bemidji State University’s Department of Visual Arts will have work on display in the University’s Talley Gallery as part of the department’s annual scholarship show.

The show, “Contrast,” opens Monday, April 4, and continues through May 3. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held at the gallery from noon to 3 p.m. on April 4.

Students competing in this year’s show were free to create works in any media featuring an interpretation of the word “contrast.”

Each year through generous contributions by donors to the Department of Visual Arts through the BSU Foundation, scholarships and awards are granted to Bemidji State students with a major or minor in art. This year, a total of $12,000 will be awarded. This year’s judges include visual arts department faculty; Andrew Graham, assistant professor of technological studies; and guest judges Marlon Davidson and Don Knutson.

Donors who have contributed to this year’s scholarship show in the name of the Department of Visual Arts include Rick and Marcella Sherman, Roy and Eva Lind, Stephen and Lois Sorenson, Patty Persell, M. Fern Birnstihl, Lillie M. Kleven, Margaret H. Harlow, Eugene Dalzotto and Keith Malmquist.

Located in room 212 of the Education Arts building on the campus of Bemidji State University, the Talley Gallery is barrier-free and open at no charge to the public. All activities in the Talley Gallery are supported by the University’s Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee. The Talley Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
