BSU to offer summer swimming lessons beginning June 7

BEMIDJI, Minn. (April 26, 2011) — Registration is now open for summer youth swimming lessons at Bemidji State University.

Lessons cost $52 per child per session and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. To register, contact Duane Biehn, associate director of campus recreation, at (218) 755-4140.

Lessons will be held in two sessions; Session 1 will be held June 7-30 and Session 2 will be held from July 12-Aug. 4. Each session will include four different skill levels in 35-minute lessons beginning at 4 p.m. and ending at 6:50 p.m.

Session 1 will feature lessons for skill levels 1-4 as classified by the American Red Cross. Level 1 lessons will be held from 4-4:35 p.m.; Level 2 from 4:45-5:20 p.m.; Level 3 from 5:30-6:05 p.m.; and Level 4 from 6:15-6:50 p.m.

Session 2 will feature lessons for skill levels 2-5. Level 2 lessons will be held from 4-4:35 p.m.; Level 3 from 4:45-5:20 p.m.; Level 4 from 5:30-6:05 p.m.; and Level 5 from 6:15-6:50 p.m.

Skill levels follow criteria set by the American Red Cross. Level 1 is an introduction to water skills designed to help students feel comfortable in the water; Level 2 provides fundamental acquatic skills; Level 3 focuses on stroke development; Level 4 on stroke improvement; and Level 5 on stroke refinement.
