Student exhibition open in Talley Gallery

Bemidji State University’s Talley Gallery features “Transcendental Terrain,” an exhibit by senior Emily Wendland.

Wendland’s exhibition opened Nov. 19; she is graduating in December with a bachelor’s degree in art.

“My show is themed around nature, but kind of with a twist,” Wendland said. “The title is Transcendental Terrain and I got that from abstracted nature, it’s a lot of animals that are morphing into humans.”

The show will feature sculptural, ceramic, painted and illustrated works by Wendland.

Originally from Duluth, Wendland moved to Bemidji to attend Bemidji State. She says that living in Northern Minnesota has influenced the way she composes her art. Wendland continues to describe her artwork as “quirky,” saying that she likes to be able to smile at her work.

“It’s nature, but then I add my sense of humor into it,” she said. “They’re a little weird. I like to make my stuff enjoyable.”

Located in room 212 of Bensen Hall on the campus of Bemidji State University, the Talley Gallery is barrier-free and open at no charge to the public. All activities in the Talley Gallery are supported by the University’s Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee and Bemidji State University’s Department of Visual Arts.

Hours for the Talley Gallery are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
