Optivation offers Building Operator Certification training

Bemidji State University’s Optivation venture is offering Building Operator Certification Level II training, intended for managers of large buildings or other facilities, beginning in early January.

Building Operator Certification is a nationally recognized, competency-based training and certification program that provides facilities managers with the knowledge to make workplaces more comfortable, energy efficient and environmentally friendly. The program trains facilities personnel to understand how a building’s electrical, lighting, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems work together, and how to bring those systems to their most efficient level of operation. Level I training provides an overview of critical building systems; Level II emphasizes preventative maintenance and more targeted training.

The training carries a tuition fee of $1,200, which must be paid prior to the first day of class on Jan. 4, 2013, and participants will earn 6.1 Continuing Education Units. Advance online registration is required by Dec. 31, 2012.

The training includes nearly 60 hours of classroom and project work in building systems operation and maintenance. The course consists of six classes taught in seven single-day sessions. To become certified, participants must complete assigned projects and pass an examination at the end of each day of training.

Building Operator Certification courses will be held at Northwest Technical College’s Sustainable Environmental Technologies Center; training will begin each day at 8 a.m. and will end by 5 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
