Bemidji Baroque Ensemble recital this Sunday

On Sunday, January 27 the Bemidji Baroque Ensemble will be playing at 3pm in the Carl O. Thompson Recital Hall on the Bemidji State University campus. The ensemble has been working together for 35 years and consists of Dr. Patrick Riley, BSU professor emeritus of music; Natalie Roholt; and Margaret Maxwell.

Melanie Hanson, concert master of the Bemidji Symphany Orchestra will be joining the trio for two pieces, the “Paris Quartet” by Georg Phillip Telemann and the “G Major Trio Sonata” by J.S. Bach. Hanson also serves as an adjunct music professor at Bemidji State.

Riley retired from Bemidji State last year, where he dedicated 39 years to teaching music to students. He has since began recording albums with other Minnesotan musicians, and has continued to play the double bass with the Bemidji Jazz Quartet.

The ensemble learns and performs new pieces each year. On Jan. 27 the group will be playing pieces composed by several Baroque masters including Bach, Handel, Telemann and Couperin.

This event is free and open to the public. Children under 6 years of age are not encouraged to attend.
