Sustainable Tuesdays announced for remainder of August

Sustainable Tuesdays, a weekly presentation on topics related to environmental and sustainability issues presented by Bemidji State University’s Sustainability Office, will feature a community potluck dinner and a pair of survival skills workshops to round out its schedule for August.

Sustainable Tuesdays are typically held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Rail River Folk School, located at 303 Railroad St. SW in Bemidji. They are open free to the public unless otherwise noted.

August 13: Community Potluck and BBQ
The public is invited to an evening of great food and conversation to celebrate another successful year of Sustainable Tuesdays events. The potluck will be held by the Rail River Folk School marina, and will meet inside the school in the event of inclement weather. The event also will introduce this year’s new MN GreenCorps member. Participants are encouraged to bring a local foods dish to share or something to cook on the folk school’s grill.

August 20: Survival Skills – Fire
The first in a short series of survival-skills workshops, Robert Saxton and John Heller will demonstrate a variety of safe fire-starting techniques.

August 27: Survival Skills – Water
This survial-skills workshop will teach participants how to find water in the wild and tell how safe it is to drink. Participants also will learn purification techniques and different methods of capturing water.
