Community Appreciation Day rescheduled for Sept. 14

Bemidji State University’s eighth annual Community Appreciation Day has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14. The event will be held from 3-6 p.m. on the Bemidji State University campus and lead directly into BSU’s home football opener against Concordia University-St. Paul.

The football game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. evening kickoff time. Community Appreciation Day visitors who are interested in attending the football game are encouraged to buy football tickets in advance to avoid ticket lines at the stadium. Advance tickets are available by calling (218) 441-4018, or by visiting the Bob Lowth Ford Pickup window at Sanford Center, both Lueken’s Village Foods locations in Bemidji, or at ticketmaster.com.

The event was originally scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 29, but was postponed due to inclement weather in Bemidji.

Community Appreciation Day is open to the public at no charge. The event will be held at the BSU Pavilion and lake side areas on the BSU campus. Free shuttle bus service from the parking lots at Bangsberg Hall and the John Glas Fieldhouse will begin at 3:45 p.m. Guests parking in the Bangsberg parking lot are encouraged to use the lakefront trail to reach the event.

The event, which is sponsored by Pepsi-Nei Bottling and Paul Bunyan Communications, will feature the “A Taste of BSU” featuring an array of food items from local restaurants and organizations. Community Appreciation Day also will feature a free concert by Voltage, BSU’s student electronic music ensemble which recently spent a month on an exchange program in China, and the Bemidji State Jazz Band.

There will also be a “Meet the Beavers” session where kids can meet student-athletes from BSU’s varsity intercollegiate sports. Student-athletes will be leading a number of interactive games, and Bucky the Beaver will be available for pictures.

In addition, dozens of booths from various campus departments and activities and local businesses and organizations, along with a variety of games for children, balloons and face painting, will be available throughout the evening.
