PEHS presents August wellness camp for kids

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University’s Department of Physical Education, Health and Sport will sponsor a Wellness and Activity Camp for kids entering grades 2-6 in the fall of 2008 from Monday, Aug. 11, through Thursday, Aug. 14. The camp, which is partially supported through a grant from the George W. Neilson Foundation, includes nutrition education, stress and relaxation techniques, and participation in a variety of physical activities.

Registration for the day camp, which is aimed to get kids off the couch and living a healthy, active lifestyle, is open now and continues through Friday, Aug. 8, or until the session is full. Registration is $50 and includes a pedometer, t-shirt, lunch and healthy snacks.

The day camp will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. each day on the Bemidji State campus. In addition, a family night event entitled “It Takes a Family to Be Healthy,” will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 4:30-7:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall 100 on the Bemidji State campus. Parents, family members and day care and child care providers are invited to attend the event, which will feature guest speakers, healthy snacks, door prizes and information booths.

The day camp will be staffed by upper class undergraduates and graduate students from Bemidji State, and faculty trained to effectively lead programs designed to teach and support healthy lifestyles. All camp leaders are trained in CPR and first aid.
