Panel discussion on problem gambling set for April 17

BEMIDJI, Minn. (April 1, 2010) — Problem gambling and its impact on families and the community will be the focus of a special panel group at Bemidji State University in April.

A panel of recovering problem gamblers and family members of a problem gambler will share their experiences on Wednesday, April 14, in the Great Room of Bemidji  State’s American Indian Resource Center. The panel, “The Hidden Addiction: Understanding Problem Gambling,” will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Additional panel members include Lynn Kistler, Bemidji Area Program for Recovery, and Roger Svendsen of the Northstar Gambling Alliance in Roseville, Minn.

The program is targeted to Bemidji State University students but is open to the Bemidji community. Bemidji State’s social work program is offering one continuing education unit in social work for attendees.

“Understanding Problem Gambling” is co-sponsored by the Northstar Problem Gambling Alliance and Bemidji State University’s Division of Student Development and Enrollment, Student Center for Health and Counseling, Office of Financial Aide and social work program.
