Feb. 13 Brown Bag Lunch session on online learning

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation will offer a presentation on getting the most out of online learning from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at its facility located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.

The session format is a half-hour presentation followed by a question-and-answer period. Attendance is free and open to all who’d like to learn more about the topic. Participants are encouraged to bring along a bag lunch.

The featured presenter will be Colleen Falk, CRI corporate development coordinator

This session is designed to suggest ways of applying existing skills and developing new ones in order to get the most out of any web-based class. A guide to successful online learning will be provided to participants.

“Online classes are not all that different from regular classes,” said Falk. “You’ll have an instructor and classmates and will interact with them during the semester. The skills you need most to be a successful online learner are the same ones you use in any class; preparation, organization and self-discipline. The difference is in how you apply them.”

Falk has been working with online learning and helping develop online curriculum for 10 years. She has provided instructional design and curriculum development that have been an important part of online learning as well as training in how to be a successful instructor and student.

The session is part of a series of training and informational presentations being offered by the CRI on the second Wednesday of each month. More information and a full schedule can be found on the Web at http://www.cri-bsu.org/BrownbagSeries.html.
