The first of the monthly Traditional Skills Workshops featured a two-part presentation on food preservation. The introductory session was held on Thursday at the Sustainability Office in the Hobson Memorial Union and the course continued on Saturday in the kitchen at the American Indian Resource Center with a hands-on workshop that involved creating a jar of some food item to take home. Bemidji State’s Sustainability Office has been offering traditional skills workshops monthly since 2009. The workshops offer introductions to skills such as deer hide tanning, breadmaking, garden planning, mushroom hunting, beekeeping and carding and spinning yarn.
