Sustainable Tuesdays return January 8

Sustainable Tuesdays, a weekly presentation on topics related to environmental and sustainability issues presented by Bemidji State University’s Sustainability Office, return on January 8, 2013.

Sustainable Tuesdays are held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Rail River Folk School, located at 303 Railroad St. SW in Bemidji. They are open free to the public.

January 8 – Native Food Culture
Shirley Nordrum of the Indigenous Foods Coalition and Simone Senogles from the Indigenous Environmental Network will present on native food systems, health, sustainability, and other aspects of the region’s indigoes food culture.

January 15 – First Speakers: Restoring the Ojibwe Language
Leslie Harper and Kim Anderson from the Niigaane Immersion School will host an airing of the award-winning documentary, “First Speakers: Restoring the Ojibwe Language.” The film examines efforts by today’s scholars to work with the remaining elders who speak fluent Ojibwe in hopes of passing the language on to future generations.

Sustainable Tuesdays are a partnership between Bemidji State’s Sustainability Office, the Indigenous Environmental Network, MN GreenCorps and the Rail River Folk School.
