President Quistgaard's Blog
President Quistgaard has started a blog where he will post periodically his thoughts and observations on a variety of topics. His first entries include his reflections on the presidential inauguration and his observations regarding proposals to lower the drinking age. FY2009 Purchasing Deadlines
Logistical Services would like to remind you of the following upcoming purchasing deadlines:
Purchases requiring a sealed bid process: April 20, 2009
Purchases above $3,000: May 25, 2008
Purchases $3,000 or less: June 15, 2009
The purchasing system will be shut down at the end of the day, June 15, 2009. It will be restarted for FY 2010 on July 1, 2009.

College of Health Sciences and Human Ecology

** Dr. Barbara Bridges, Department of Professional Education, has received two Educator of the Year awards this academic year. In November, she was named Minnesota Higher Art Educator of the Year by Art Educators of Minnesota, and later this month she will be named Minnesota Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Educators Association.
** Dr. Dan Gartrell, professor of child development, recently delivered a three-hour training session in Kansas City, Mo., and two presentations with breakout sessions in Marquette, Mich.
The training session involved 200 preschool and early childhood special education staff from the Kansas City School District entitled "The Development and Expression of Intelligence in Young Children."
The keynote addresses came before an audience of 300 at Northern Michigan University's annual "U.P." early childhood conference on topics surrounding the book "Developmentally Appropriate Guidance of Young Children," written for the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children.
** Dr. Rochelle "Riki" Scheela did a poster presentation at the Midwest Nursing Research Society conference March 28 in Minneapolis entitled "Polygraph: Sex Offender Treatment Strategy." Sixty percent of the offenders reported they would not have been honest with their disclosures if they had not undergone polygraph tests.
Scheela was also a part of a panel presentation at Bemidji State's "Breaking the Silence" conference on April 3. The presentation, entitled "The Making of a Community Collaborative: Partners, Policies, Practices, & Outcomes," focused on enhancing community partnerships and developing system-wide policies and procedures for sexual abuse.

Student Affairs

** Valerie Wallingford, director of TRIO and related programs, completed her doctorate in business administration with a specialization in management from Northcentral University in January.

Personnel News

*Lauralee Tupa named temporary office and administrative specialist in the Small Business Development Center, effective March 9.
