Objectives

I)  Establish a Health Promoting Workplace Conduct needs assessments and surveys to determine needs/interests and baseline data. Comprehensively explore other successful (best practices) employee wellness programs on local, regional and national levels. Use information from needs assessment and best practices programs to create and develop programs and opportunities that will meet the needs and interests of BSU/NTC employees. Take steps to determine the effectiveness of Living Well, Working Well employee wellness program

II) Empower and Encourage Employees to Be Well Educate faculty and staff about wellness and all components of wellness (physical, social, emotional, occupational, intellectual, environmental, spiritual) Provide up-to-date information and best practices for achieving, maintaining, and enhancing wellness, such as:

         1. Brown bag lunches periodically with various local experts
         2. Website info:
             i.BSU wellness resources and services
             ii.Current wellness information
             iii.Other resources and websites available (ie.healthjourneys.com)                                                                              
             iv.Best Wellness Practices
         3. Share resources and information via "wellmails" - such as health affirmations, meaningful quotes, or to alert faculty/staff to new information on our website
         4. Sponsor an inspirational wellness speaker annually - for things such as community breakfast, or community appreciation day, etc.

III) Support and Facilitate Healthy Choices

1. Develop incentives for faculty and staff to use wellness information and participate in wellness activities made available at work

    a. Distribute pedometers and sponsor walking competitions
    b.  Allow faculty/staff time to participate in yoga, cycling, etc. classes through the Rec. Center. 
    c. Develop Incentives for participating in wellness activities.

2. Collaborate with others to optimize wellness options and opportunities for BSU/NTC employees

    a. Understand health provider's ability to support the wellness of employees
    b. Partner with university and community services to meet the wellness needs and interests of employees

3. Facilitate awareness of health improvement/promotion and maintenance services at work, such as:

    a.Health screenings
    b.flu shots.
    c.Tobacco cessation clinics
    d.Weight management strategies

4.  Act as a wellness information and resource clearinghouse

    a. Heighten the awareness of university and community-based programming opportunities (e.g., exercise/physical activity choices, stress management options, knowing important numbers)
