Directory Assistance - You can dial 8 + 1 + the area code + 555-1212 + wait for the tone and then dial your long distance ID code. However, you will be charged long distance and an access fee each time you utilize directory assistance.

Toll Free Numbers - Dial 9 + 1 + 800 555-1212.

When calling within the Bemidji State University campus, dial only the last four digits of the number.

Off Campus/Local Area Dialing

Dial 9 + the 7 digit number. There is no long distance charge on calls from campus to the following prefix numbers:

Long Distance Dialing

from an administrative line for official state business.

To call anywhere in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Canada - dial 8 + 1 + the area code + the 7 digit number + wait for the tone and then dial your 6 digit ID code (obtain an ID code from Telephone Services at 2050).

International Calls ? dial 8 + 011 + Country Code + the number + wait for the tone and then dial your 6 digit ID Code. Contact the Telephone Services Office at 2050 if you have a problem dialing.

Personal Long Distance Calls

State Telephones shall not be used for personal long distance calls. This includes the incoming toll free numbers. Such calls constitute illegal avoidance of state/federal taxes and are clearly contrary to the proper usage of lines intended for state business only. Individuals making personal long distance calls from state facilities will be subject to applicable legal sanctions.

If you need to make a personal long distance call, you may do so using a personal long distance calling card. Dial 9 for an outside line and then enter the toll free number provided by your calling card carrier, for example: 9 + 1 800 4US West (487-9378) and follow the prompts (Press 1. Dial the area code and phone number you wish to call. Enter your calling card number and four digit PIN).
