The functions of the Office of Research & Effectiveness include extraction and compilation of University data from various sources but primarily the Integrated Student Record System according to defined periods of time (e.g. semester, annual, multiple years) and by departments, disciplines, cost centers and by Classification of Instructional Programs codes (CIP). Among them are:

  • Student Headcount
  • Student Credit Hour Count
  • Student Full time Equivalents (FTE)

Major publications and research projects of the Office of Research & Effectiveness include an annual BSU Data Book, Five Year Review Guidelines & Assessment Plan, BSU/MnSCU Cost Allocation Study, IPEDS-Fall Enrollment, IPEDS-Graduation Report, NCAA Graduation Report, Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory, VSA - Voluntary System of Accountability, and a General education survey of student learning outcomes.

Contents of the Bemidji State University Data Book contain 20 tables of general university information, an institutional summary, college summaries, data for the Center for Extended Learning and Summer School, and descriptive and table data for every credit generating department and program. Among the department and program data points are faculty characteristics, annual credit hour generation, student and faculty FTE, degrees granted, numbers of majors and minors, and Credit/FTE and Degrees Granted/FTE ratios. Most department and program level data is presented for the most recent 5 year period, and has an accompanying 5 year average.
